When Liverpool faced Fulham on Sunday, there was a huge improvement from their performance against Red Star Belgrade, even if they still looked flat for most of the game. A lot of fans, though, have put that down to the fact that Xherdan Shaqiri returned to the side as the Swiss midfielder put in a man of the match display and the fans want to see him as a regular now.

Shaqiri was a bargain buy from relegated Stoke City over the summer and as he’s adapted to life on Merseyside and playing football under Jurgen Klopp he’s flourished into the midfield man that no one thought he’d be when he signed. At the Bet 365, Stoke’s prize asset often cut a frustrated, lazy figure. An inconsistent performer who ultimately couldn’t keep his side up any longer, although since he left he’s a new player.
Whatever Klopp puts in the water at Liverpool’s Melwood training ground seems to have brought a new lease of life to Shaqiri and his performances are showing it. The winger-turned midfielder scored a lovely cushioned volley against Fulham, his second strike of the season, and now the fans will be expecting a whole lot more from the 27-year-old as they aim to up their efforts to usurp Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
