Lots of Liverpool fans have been left delighted by a report on the future of Virgil van Dijk, as The Mirror’s David Maddock claims the Reds are set to make him the world’s best paid defender.
Maddock’s report notes how Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have all been rewarded with new contracts in the last year, and the Netherlands international is set to follow suit. Football Insider have also claimed a big new deal is on the way for van Dijk, reporting that his new contract could be worth more than £200,000 a week including add-ons and performance bonuses.
Van Dijk has enjoyed another phenomenal campaign this season after grabbing the PFA Player of the Year crown last term, leading the squad in aerial wins per game (4.9) while grabbing four top-flight goals and completing 89% of his passes, per Whoscored.
Fans are insistent that he is worth the bumper new deal, as they took to Twitter to respond to the news from Maddock…
