Liverpool: Fans slam comments made by Shrewsbury Town on FA Cup clash

Shrewsbury Town have lashed out at Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp for spoiling their FA Cup experience earlier this season.

In a club statement from the Shrews (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom), they have opened up on their exit from the competition at the hands of a youthful Liverpool side.

Back in February, Klopp opted to put youth coach Neil Critchley in charge of the fourth round replay, where he fielded a squad with an average age of 19. The previous fixture ended 2-2 and it was the Reds who snatched the win the second time round.

However, Shrewsbury have a lot to say on the matter. “Immediately following the match, Klopp ruined what should have been a wonderful moment for our club by making public statements that he and all of his first-team would not attend the replay at Anfield,” the statement read.

Klopp had prioritised Liverpool’s ‘winter rest’ period over playing his first team members in a match he seemingly thought they could win with ease.

Fans are hitting back at Shrewsbury’s statement, with one supporter tweeting: ‘We don’t owe you anything’.
