Liverpool: Fans rip Frank Lampard to pieces over comments on Andreas Christensen red card

Liverpool fought hard to snub Chelsea in their second match of the Premier League season on Sunday.

Arguably two of the biggest title contenders for this term went head-to-head in an early attempt to gain some advantage. The Stamford Bridge fixture would end up seeing Liverpool do just that, as they put a three point cushion between themselves and Chelsea already.

The Reds completed a 2-0 victory on the road thanks to two goals from Sadio Mane. The reigning champions succeeded in capitalising on their player advantage after Andreas Christensen was given his marching orders.

After a VAR check, the Dane saw red due to a last ditch foul on Mane, who was through on goal. Despite his evidently physical challenge, Frank Lampard was not convinced it warranted a red card.

When asked by about it, as quoted by Neil Jones, the manager said: “Not definitely. They can be given or not.

“Once the yellow is the first decision, you feel it needs to be absolutely certain that it’s a red to make that decision. I’m not sure it was. It was one I felt could be given or not.”

Many fans feel this is an excuse from Lampard and have slammed him for not accepting the incident. One Liverpool supporter has tweeted that ‘Frank is salty’ whilst another thinks that he has turned ‘so bitter’ lately.

This is the first time fans have lashed out at Lampard’s comments either. They recently hit out at him calling Jurgen Klopp and the team ‘arrogant’.
