Liverpool defender Neco Williams will likely leave the Reds this summer after the arrival of Calvin Ramsay, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Ramsay joins Liverpool

On Sunday, the Reds confirmed the signing of Ramsay, with the 18-year-old joining from Aberdeen in a deal worth up to £6.5m.

The Scot will come in as an understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, with big things expected of him in the future.

The move looks set to leave Williams surplus to requirements at Liverpool, though, and a summer exit could be on the cards for the 21-year-old.

The Latest: Williams backed for Liverpool exit

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that the Welshman would depart Anfield ahead of next season, with a return to Fulham looking likely.

The journalist believes that will be a consequence of Ramsay signing for Liverpool, saying:

"One of the things it will do is lead to the exit of Neco Williams. Fulham are obviously in the hunt for him and do expect to sign him at this point. It’ll be interesting to see how Liverpool react to that.

"There’s no doubt Calvin Ramsay is good, but there’s some people that felt like Williams was the perfect player to follow on from Trent, so it’s an interesting decision from Liverpool."

The Verdict: Good for all parties

It makes complete sense for Williams to seal a permanent Liverpool exit this summer, considering that he now looks like the third-choice right back at the club.

That would allow him regular football ahead of a potential starring role for Wales at the World Cup later this year, and generally afford him more regular playing time moving forward.

Fulham would be an ideal move for Williams, considering that he played at Craven Cottage on loan last season and that they are now back in the Premier League, and he could be a force there. It would also bring in extra transfer funds for Liverpool to sign new players, with reports claiming that the Reds could sell him for £15m.
