Liverpool could potentially look to sign Leicester City talisman Youri Tielemans as part of a revamp of their midfield, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The Lowdown: Tielemans thriving for Leicester
The Belgian may be part of a struggling Foxes side in the Premier League this season but his performances have been largely impressive.
Tielemans has scored three goals in the top flight, two of which were spectacular strikes against Wolves and Everton, and his quality has often shone through.
It could be that the 25-year-old moves on in the near future, though, perhaps looking for a fresh challenge after spending three years already in a Leicester shirt.
The Latest: Liverpool could make Tielemans move
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Brown stated he could see Liverpool tabling a bid for Tielemans as they look for midfield reinforcements, with the player mentioned alongside the Reds in transfer reports in recent weeks.
Brown said of the Belgium international:
“I think he would suit them down to the ground, he’d fit in and can play a number of different roles for them in an area where they’re weak.
“But I’m not sure he’d be their top choice in there. I think at the moment, they’re trying to look for players at a slightly higher level, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were to make a move as well.”
The Verdict: Proven Premier League quality
Tielemans has proven himself as arguably one of the best midfielders outside of the so-called ‘big six’ Premier League clubs, combining creativity with a strong work ethic.
Multiple title-winning manager Pep Guardiola has called him a ‘top, top class player’ in the past, which speaks volumes of the 25-year-old’s ability, and he is someone who could add a much-needed spark to Liverpool’s ageing, injury-plagued midfield.
Also, at 25 he is likely coming into his prime, and Jurgen Klopp may feel that he could take the Belgian to another level by luring him to Anfield.
