It was a night to forget for Liverpool and their fans, with very few positives to take away from an otherwise poor FA Cup performance. Instead, many Reds supporters are turning their attention to the officials at the game, and for the right reasons this time…
Sian Massey-Ellis was on the officiating list for last night’s FA Cup fifth round clash at Stamford Bridge and she has received some excellent feedback from numerous fans.
The 34-year-old made history back in October when she became the first ever female to officiate a men’s European fixture. She joined Chris Kavanagh at the Europa League match between PSV Eindhoven and Linzer ASK. (via The FA).
Match officials have been coming under a lot of fire this season, particularly those involved in VAR cases. However, Massey-Ellis is one to receive very little criticism. Many Liverpool fans are doffing their caps for ‘never getting an offside decision wrong’, with one even suggesting she is the ‘best‘ official in the league. Meanwhile a few others want to see her take on the role of referee.
One fan claims VAR isn’t needed when there’s some as eagle-eyed as the Coventry-born lino.

I’ll say it again – Sian Massey is the most consistent assistant ref in the prem league.

Another useless ref. How long until Sian Massey gets a shot?

Who needs VAR when you have officials like Massey-Ellis running the line. First half Chelsea v Liverpool two tricky offside decisions spot-on.

Liverpool were poor last night but props to Sian Massey-Ellis.
She had a tremendous game and deserves a lot of credit.

What did you make of Sian Massey-Ellis’ game on the sideline, Reds? Should she be put in a more advanced role?
