There are sensational reports in the Football Transfer Tavern today as James Dickenson from The Express reveals that Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to offer Ashley Cole an escape route out of Chelsea.
The 33-year-old has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho in recent months, with right back Cesar Azpilicueta being preferred out of position on the left flank.
Cole’s existing contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer and there have been recent suggestions in the bar that the former Arsenal man could decided to end up his illustrious career.
However he certainly won’t be without options if the Blues fail to extend his deal, with MLS outfit New York Red Bulls also showing interest in the England international.
Now Dickenson brings fresh speculation that Cole could remain in the Premier League with both Liverpool and Spurs reportedly ready to swoop for the Chelsea star in January.
While Cole would have no desire to leave Stamford Bridge, he faces strict competition from Everton’s Leighton Baines for the left back berth in Roy Hodgson’s England side and this could see him looking at possible options.
He hasn’t started a league game for Mourinho’s side since November and now could be allowed to depart after a reported disagreement with the former Real Madrid manager.
Would Cole be a good acquisition for either Premier League side? Let us know your thoughts below.
