It is all set to be another encapsulating end to deadline day and the hype is quickly building in the Football Transfer Tavern as the clock ticks towards the 11pm deadline.
Liverpool are understood to be putting all of their efforts into signing Yevhen Konoplyanka before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.
There are now conflicting reports in the tavern about the potential transfer as Simon Jones from Mail Online tells nervous Reds punters that the Anfield club are set to complete the signing of the 24-year-old by offering him a five-and-a-half year deal.
With personal terms agreed, it will be down to the player’s club to ratify the move.
However Metro suggest that the transfer is on the brink of collapsing with the player’s agent admitting that his club don’t want to sell.
His representative Olvier Cabera said: ‘We have a very good relationship with the president Ihor Kolomoyskyi and he doesn’t want to sell the player. Yehven and his father respect that so a move is very unlikely.’
Earlier in the day boss Brendan Rodgers remained confident that a deal could get through, despite a host of complications that could occur.
Rodgers said: ‘The timeline is tight but the club are working hard to make it happen and I’m still hopeful. We will have to wait and see.’
Konoplyanka, who only emerged as prime target for Rodgers after losing Mohamed Salah to Chelsea, would certainly offer versatility to the Reds with the ability to play on either flank or down the middle. It was thought that Spurs were ready to hijack any transfer for the Ukraine international, but as yet Liverpool remain favourites if he is to make the switch to England tonight.
