Liverpool target ended up signing for Crystal Palace

Tom InceThe closure of the winter transfer window has seen the staff, including myself, at the Football Transfer Tavern beginning a facelift in the bar as we welcome the new signings at their respective clubs.

One of those to make a late switch yesterday was Blackpool’s Thomas Ince, who after much speculation finally signed for Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest players outside of the Premier League and had been talks with a whole host of clubs after it was revealed that could leave Bloomfield Road before the deadline closed.

Swansea, Stoke and Hull were all thought to have an interest in signing the former Liverpool man, and he was also linked with a return to Anfield where he originally began his football career before leaving for regular football with the Tangerines in August 2012.

However Ince has now decided to join Tony Pulis’ side as he looks to help the Eagles avoid relegation. As reported on the Eagles’ official website, Palace were able to sweeten the deal by including Stephen Dobbie as part of the transfer and that ensured will Ince would spend the next six months at Selhurst Park.

He was joined by fellow deadline day arrivals in the form of Celtic’s Joe Ledley, Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, Blackburn’s Scott Dann and Southampton winger Jason Puncheon on a permanent deal in what was a productive day for Pulis and Palace

It will now certainly be interesting to see if Ince can live up to his growing reputation with his contract at Blackpool set to expire in the summer and therefore another possible move on the agenda.
