Manchester United: Fans blast David de Gea ahead of Premier League clash with West Ham

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has copped criticism once again after making another costly mistake against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final defeat on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer defended his first-choice keeper from the critics after he fumbled a shot from Steven Bergwijn to gift Spurs a goal in the 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

De Gea, who once considered by some fans to be Europe’s finest shot-stopper, allowed a routine shot from Mason Mount to slip through his grasp last weekend, following his failure to stop a close-range strike from Olivier Giroud at Wembley.

According to The Times, as per @utdreport, Solskjaer could look to replace the Spaniard with Sergio Romero for this evening’s crucial clash with West Ham at Old Trafford. As it stands, the Red Devils are currently fifth in the Premier League table, tied with Leicester City on 62 points, with only two games remaining.

The Spanish international looks short of confidence and the club cannot afford for him to make any more mistakes.

Unsurprisingly, lots of United fans blasted the “liability” on social media ahead of the match this evening, with one supporter saying it is “ridiculous” that he has continued to play in spite of his slump in form, while another thinks it would be a “mistake” to play him against the Hammers, who have beaten Chelsea in recent weeks.
