Manchester City enter race for long-term Manchester United target

shawThere is some big news arriving in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.

The Guardian report that Manchester City are ready to join Manchester United and Chelsea in their pursuit for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw.

The 18-year-old defender has been very impressive in Mauricio Pochettino’s side since making his first team breakthrough last term, and now City manager Manuel Pellegrini has decided that the England Under-21 international would be a suitable addition to his defence.

City will have to fend off strong competition from United and Chelsea to land Shaw, but here in the tavern we can see the need for a new left back at the Etihad Stadium.

Aleksandar Kolarov has recently started for Pellegrini but there remain doubts about his defensive ability with Shaw viewed a long-term option.

David Moyes wants Shaw to replace Patrice Evra at Old Trafford while Jose Mourinho has outlined the youngster as the ideal replacement for Ashley Cole in his Blues side.

While it’s obvious the Saints have no real interest in selling Shaw at this stage of his career, is thought that his valuation of £22 million could still see him leaving in the summer.

It is starting to seem likely that Shaw will be on the move during the summer but who do you think he will sign for? Let us know your thoughts below.
