Manchester City are reportedly looking to sort a new contract for forward Julian Alvarez, as they look to tie down his long-term future moving forward.

The Lowdown: Alvarez a huge prospect

The 22-year-old's stock continues to rise, having won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, scoring four goals in Qatar and leading the line impressively.

At City, Alvarez has made 13 appearances in the Premier League this season, although only three of those have been starts, in what has been a hit-and-miss campaign domestically.

He is clearly a big prospect moving forward, however, and while his current deal doesn't expire until 2027, it could be that another extension is heading his way.

The Latest: City working on new deal

According to journalist Dario Montero on Twitter [via Sport Witness], an improved deal is now being worked on by City:

"Just some information that comes from the environment of Julian Alvarez.

"He has a contract until 2027 but the first contract they made to Julián was for a player who was going to go on loan and since, obviously he has not gone on loan and his performance has been what it has, they are going to modify the contract and improve it.

"They’re just meeting in Manchester, his agent and Manchester City, for them to make that improvement to the contract that is more than deserved."

The Verdict: Massive player for the future

This is a no-brainer as far as City are concerned, with trying down Alvarez for as long as possible something that has to be a priority for Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine is a special attacking talent who has been described as 'extraordinary' by Lionel Messi, which is just about the highest praise possible in football.

Granted, Alvarez's current tally of eight goals in 23 appearances for City is relatively modest, but as time passes, it would be a shock if he didn't become a prolific and key player for Guardiola's side.
