The club released a statement and revealed that they had banned a supporter indefinitely for racist abuse during Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford (via Sky Sports).
The incident follows less than savoury scenes in England’s 6-0 win away to Bulgaria during their recent European Championship qualifier.
Supporters of Bulgaria were caught by pitchside microphones and television cameras handing out racist abuse to black-members of the England squad during the encounter (via The Telegraph).
The incident resulted in the resignations of the Bulgarian FA president Borislav Mikhailov and the team’s manager Krasimir Balakov.
After witnessing multiple racist incidents of late, some fans applauded the swift action taken by United in banning someone as supporters took to Twitter to react.
Here is a selection of tweets from the Old Trafford faithful:
Love how @ManUtd deals with racism. Doesn’t fuss about and just straight away gives them a lifetime ban. Just how it should be.

Chelsea took 6 months to hold their racist fans accountable.
United took 2 days.
I support the right team.

Good. But also I want #ManUtd to go one step further and ban proven source of disappointment #edwoodward in everything he does since his inception…
