Manchester United: Fans regret missing out on ‘midfield maestro’ Toni Kroos

Responding to a post from United Xtra, Manchester United fans were asked the simple question of who they regret missing out on most this decade – with a portion of those supporters highlighting Toni Kroos as a real missed opportunity.

During David Moyes’ reign at Old Trafford, United were consistently linked with Real Madrid star Kroos in a bid to add quality to their midfield – even telling GQ recently (via the Manchester Evening News) that he had verbally agreed to move to Old Trafford in 2014.

The German maestro, after his World Cup winning exploits for his country, eventually opted for the La Liga giants instead and has since gone on to make 254 appearances in all competitions – scoring 16 goals and assisting 63 others from midfield, as per Transfermarkt.

Indeed, one of the premier midfielders in the world in recent years – winning three Champions League titles with Real Madrid following his World Cup triumph – it’s not hard to imagine the former Bayern Munich man making an impact at the Theatre of Dreams.

Now, Red Devils supporters have opened up on social media over their heartbreak due to missing out on the 29-year-old all those years ago – taking to Twitter and voicing their frustration.

Here’s what they had to say.

Wanted Kroos for a long time, perfect replacement for Scholes. Still waiting for Sneijder’s plane to land too.

Has to be Kroos. Would have been a midfield maestro in the EPL.

#ToniKroos…arguably the best midfielder of the decade. We’ve lacked consistency in the middle of the park. He would have made us one of the finer clubs in Europe.

Kroos, back in Moyes first year. I don’t know if it would have saved Moyes, but that was one of the most important missed of the decade.

Kroos, seems that deal was done until lvg came in and decided he didn’t want him. Lewandowski was a big one but then again we signed RVP so didn’t really complain too much at the time

Either Kroos or bale because at the time when we was so so close to signing them they were in incredible form and improved us massively and put us on a even better path.
