Newcastle United: Matty Longstaff contract saga has supporters fuming over on-going negotiations

According to a report from the Telegraph, Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is ‘concerned‘ over the on-going contract saga with Matty Longstaff as the player is reportedly still unable to agree a new deal – leaving some sets of supporters frustrated over the club not being able to tie the player down.

Longstaff, who has completed a noteworthy 89% pass accuracy inside his own half over six starts in the Premier League this season (SofaScore), has impressed in flashes since being promoted to the first team – most notably scoring in each league fixture against Premier League giants Manchester United.

The Englishman, as a result, is currently in negotiations for a new contract – but due to other contractual complications with his brother Sean, the deal could be stalled for a little while longer according to this Telegraph piece. The younger Longstaff appears to have an edge when it comes to passing, with Matthew amassing an 80% success rate overall compared to Sean’s 78.1% – all the while making more passes on average (34.3), as per WhoScored.com.
