For the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, developing homegrown talent is just as important as winning titles. The Red Devils have a rich history of homegrown players, with the famed Class of ’92 going down in the very foundations of the club.
In recent years, however, they have seen that success dwindle somewhat. Often through no fault of management, young players, for a variety of reasons, haven’t been able to get much success at Old Trafford. Maybe it’s the pressure, maybe it’s a lack of talent, and maybe it’s just down to a lack of opportunity, but it hasn’t been easy for Man Utd as of late.
However, one homegrown player that has excelled through all of that is Marcus Rashford.
Brought into the fold as a result of a lack of other options, the Englishman’s fine form has forced various manager’s hands, with even Jose Mourinho – who is often hesitant to develop homegrown talent – making regular use of his ability this term.
However, recent reports from the Mirror have suggested that all is not well at the club. According to the publication, Rashford is getting disillusioned with his treatment under the manager, with a lack of starts reportedly an issue for him. Granted, he has played in a lot of games this season, but as the Mirror points out, much of his involvement has come from the bench.
However, the Man Utd fans over on Twitter aren’t buying the reports. They’ve been talking about Rashford’s future all day today, and it’s fair to say that the vast majority are expecting him to be at Old Trafford next season. As one fan puts it, they think there’s more chance of winning the lottery than seeing the homegrown star leave.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
Don't see much truth in the Rashford story apart from clickbait. Usual "source close to the club" BUT all he needs to do is look at his mate Lingard. He is only 20. Long career ahead of him. Needs to keep grounded. #mufc

if Mourinho sells #Rashford this summer, it will not go down well with #MUFC fans.

The Mirror and talk sport saying @MarcusRashford wants to leave United, really?
I don’t think Rashford would ever leave @ManUtd and the board would not let him go #MUFC— ShaQ (@oehairdesign) April 10, 2018
Regarding Rashford rumour, I doubt there's any real truth to it.
His lack of starts isn't a big deal at this stage of his career. He's 20, but people seem to want to think of him as being 28/29 and not having long left.#MUFC #perspective
