Manchester City supporters are eagerly anticipating their team’s home clash with Southampton this evening as the Citizens go in search of a 19th successive victory in all competitions, a result which would maintain their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s men were tipped by many to go on and win the title this term, and they have certainly lived up to expectations by winning 12 of their opening 13 league games, although their most recent success was arguably their trickiest yet. David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town took a first half lead against the North West outfit thanks to Nicolas Otamendi’s own goal, yet Guardiola’s side hit back in the second half as goals from Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling sealed a narrow victory for City, in turn keeping them eight points clear of second place Manchester United in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled City fans in the Tavern this week, and more good news could be set to follow if a recent report from Marca (via talkSPORT) is anything to go by, which suggests that reported Citizens target Sime Vrsaljko wants to leave Atletico Madrid.
The 25-year-old full-back made the move to the Spanish capital back in 2016 yet has struggled to nail down a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s starting eleven, having managed just 30 appearances in all competitions.
And although injury has played a part in his troubles, it appears that the Croatia international’s time at the Wanda Metropolitano could be coming to an end as reports suggest that he wants out of the La Liga club, which is sure to alert reported interested parties Manchester City and Napoli.
And with Guardiola’s City possibly in the market for full-back reinforcements, this is likely to come as good news to the Citizens hierarchy ahead of the January transfer window.
