Mourinho provides concerning update on status of 29-year-old

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling rather optimistic ahead of their side’s return to the Champions League…

It has been a long time coming for the Red Devils, but under Jose Mourinho, the historic Premier League outfit look ready to take on the rest of Europe once again.

They face a tough test on the opening day of the competition against FC Basel, though, who are not a side to be taken lightly.

Unfortunately for the Red Devils, Jose Mourinho has delivered some bad news ahead of the game – with the boss still uncertain on the status of Maurane Fellaini. The Belgian is currently injured, having yet to train this week, and Mourinho was unable to confirm if he would be available to face the Swiss side after missing training yesterday.

This is, of course, a massive blow for Man Utd, as Fellaini is clearly a very trusted member of his playing squad. A strong, robust midfielder – he is exactly the sort of player that the Portuguese has grown to love in recent years.

Landlord’s Verdict

Whichever way you spin it, this is bad news for Man Utd.

Even if Fellaini gets through a training session or two unscathed ahead of the game, that will still leave him short of match fitness. As a result, a starting berth seems almost out of the question.

Man Utd need all the strength they can get ahead of their Champions League return, and given how important Fellaini is, Mourinho will have to adjust his tactics accordingly.

Still, the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic that their club will get a result.
