A number of challenges are facing the Manchester-based side, and they aren’t all just to do with the team they are facing. On a basic level, FC Rostov will certainly provide Mourinho with a tough game in a difficult atmosphere – but it seems as though Mourinho is far more concerned about the pitch that his side are set to play on.
Ahead of the game, the Portuguese manager has raised concerns about the condition of the field – with there seemingly being genuine concern from the Man Utd boss that his players could suffer an injury.
He has also mentioned the Bird’s Nest in the summer, which is a reference to a pre-season friendly that Man Utd were supposed to play against Man City in China – but it was unfortunately postponed following a failed pitch inspection.
