Despite an unprecedented summer splurge at Manchester United like never seen before, the punters in the Transfer Tavern are yet to be wholly convinced by the Jose Mourinho era. 

There’s little doubting the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ boasts one of the finest squads in Europe, though they’ve so far struggled to truly live up to expectation.

Still, one of the major things the Portuguese must deal with at Old Trafford is the copious amount of deadwood within the ranks.

After a bumpy time of things since Sir Alex Ferguson, the Red Devils have a rather large squad, one far too big as things stand.

Though the January transfer window is barely noted for the magnitude of activity during it, it could well provide the 53-year-old with a chance to shed some of the hangers on.

With that in mind, here are TWO players Mourinho simply must loan out in the New Year.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Written off by the club entirely, there’s little to no future for Bastian Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford.

While the club may well prefer getting rid of the legendary Bayern Munich midfielder on a permanent basis, the size of his wages could make that difficult.

That being said, perhaps loaning him out and hoping a suitor pays at least some of his salary would be a good avenue to explore.

Marcos Rojo

Mourinho has a number of top defenders from which to choose from at the Theatre of Dreams, meaning Marcos Rojo is largely on the periphery.

Like the aforementioned Schweinsteiger, the former Sporting Lisbon ace is likely to be on a huge weekly wage at Old Trafford, making any deal in the New Year difficult.

A loan move away to a European club may be best for the Argentine at this stage of his career.
