The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from Sunderland’s new executive director, Charlie Methven, as he labelled the Magpies as ‘an arrogant club’. The new Sunderland man also claimed that Newcastle United ‘think they are special’ in an interview he gave via The Chronicle.

Sunderland are one of the most depressing clubs in world football to support at the moment. The fans have had to endure a double relegation over the last two seasons, having gone finished bottom of both the Premier League and the Championship in the last two seasons, winning just 13 of their last 84 league games across the last two domestic campaigns.
Meanwhile, the club’s neighbours and Tyne-wear rivals, Newcastle, have been full of the joys. Under Rafa Benitez, the Magpies won the Championship before securing a 10th place finish in their first year back in the Premier League. It looks like the two won’t be playing each other in the league for a while, with two divisions standing between the pair. If the sides do meet next season it will have to be in a cup competition, and it will be likely to see a Newcastle win, given how dismal Sunderland are at the moment.

Think they need to concentrate on their own problems instead of slagging us off!! #SMB

I’ve never laughed so much since that time Burton Albion relegated Sunderland to the 3rd Division.

Aren’t Gateshead our main rivals now? We don’t care about Sunderland anymore? League one club. Didn’t burton relegate them?
