Newcastle agree fee for Federico Fernandez

Newcastle United could be about to add a defensive talent to their side as the transfer deadline fast approaches.

According to a report in The Sun, Swansea City’s Federico Fernandez could be set to join the St. James’ Park outfit in a deal thought to be around £6million.

It is believed that the two clubs have been trying to thrash out a fee for the player with the Swans willing to offload him.

The centre-back is thought to be heading for a medical as it is being claimed that personal terms were not an issue for the Argentine.

Fernandez is thought to have wanted to make a quick return to the Premier League, whilst Newcastle are keen to add defensive reinforcements to their side.

The Magpies are currently short of centre-backs and Rafa Benitez was keen to add the man that he previously had with him at Napoli.

The Verdict:

Fernandez could become a very good addition for the club this summer, as Newcastle look to add reinforcements.

The centre-back will be able to offer Benitez’s side experience, having spent the last three years with Swansea in the top-flight.

Fernandez will look to join Fabian Schar at the club as a new recruit this summer and will be looking to make an immediate impact, as they look to compete with for a spot alongside Jamaal Lascelles.
