Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are on high spirits following the weekend’s results in the Championship, as Brighton’s loss to Bristol City means the title race will be decided on the final weekend next week.
Rafael Benitez’ side have already secured their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking and have been handed further good news after Sunderland’s relegation was confirmed yesterday after a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
The Spaniard now faces a stern test to improve his squad to ensure the Tyneside giants retain their Premier League status next term and summer deals will be extremely significant, which may include making Christian Atsu’s loan move from Chelsea permanent.
When speaking about the Ghanian’s future at St James’ Park, Benitez is quoted by The Daily Express as stating:
“The future of a player doesn’t change with one action or goal. We know that he’s a good player. We have to decide. I’m really pleased with him. We have to see where we are in terms of the squad and all these things.”
Signed by Chelsea in 2013, Atsu is yet to make his senior debut and our landlord believes it’s inevitable he will be sold this summer.
Should Newcastle push through a permanent deal for Atsu? Let us know in the comments below!
