Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern could be about to see one of their players leave this summer as they look to raise funds for new additions.
Rafa Benitez will be keen to strengthen his team during the transfer window, however, things have been slow and it is thought that he will need to raise addition finances to ensure he can make the changes he wants.
One method of raising the money needed will be via player sales and according to reports in Spain, the manager could be about to let one of his players depart St. James’ Park.
It is believed the negotiations are at an advanced stage with a deal thought to be around €12million, however, the terms of payment will still need to be confirmed between the two sides.
Landlord’s Verdict
The possibility of Merino returning to Spain has been on the cards for a number of months, with the player thought to have been unable to settle in the north-east. The midfielder, who is thought to still be rated by Benitez, started his Newcastle career well, however, an injury stopped any sort of momentum he had and the fans in the Tavern will be disappointed his time at the Magpies did not go as well as they would have liked.
