Newcastle eyeing up Yoshinori Muto

Newcastle United have had a frustrating transfer window once again as Rafa Benitez has not had the money available to make the additions he would like.

The Magpies have already added Martin Dubravka to the side for £4million, whilst Kenedy has rejoined on a season-long loan and Ki Sung-yueng has arrived on a free transfer.

However, Benitez is keen to continue adding to his squad as they prepare for another season in the Premier League and it is believed a striker is one of his main priorities.

The club have been linked with a move for Salomon Rondon over the course of the summer, following West Bromwich Albion’s relegation, but talks have continued to stumble along.

And, according to the Daily Mail, it appears he has turned his attention to one man that featured for his country at the World Cup as his next possible target. It is being claimed that Japan international Yoshinori Muto is on his list as he looks to add firepower to his squad.

However, the report also suggests that a move for the Mainz man would only happen should they sell Aleksandr Mitrovic, with Fulham thought to be closing in.

The Verdict:

Muto would be a smart addition for Newcastle to make this summer as they look for a forward.

Benitez knows he can not rely on the likes of Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez to find the back of the net on a consistent basis and the Japanese man could help to ease the pressure.

The German outfit could be prepared to offload the 26-year-old as he has just one year left on his current contract and there are concerns that he will not sign a new one to remain in the Bundesliga.
