Newcastle United are in a funny position at the moment. Despite absolute chaos over the summer months and early season, Rafa Benitez has steadied the ship at St James Park. Mike Ashley seems to be more on-board with the club and, apparently, funds will be available in January. That’s where these fans come in, who have been fuming as Cadena Ser has linked the club with Diego Llorente.

Now the Magpies aren’t frustrated at being linked with the Real Sociedad player because they don’t think he’s good enough. No, instead, they’re angry because of all the positions they need to strengthen, the only two that they don’t are their central defence and goalkeeper. Benitez has an abundance of centre-halves at his disposal, so splashing out a supposed 30 million euros on a defender doesn’t sound like the wisest idea.
Even if the Magpies were after a defender, it’s extremely unlikely that they’d smash their transfer record on a relatively unheard of 25-year-old from Spain. The fans are all in agreement that they need reinforcements at full-back and in the #10 role, so surely Rafa is working on players to bring in where they actually need it as opposed to just stockpiling defenders. Whatever happens, the fans know Benitez will do everything he can to help the club succeed, whether funds come in or not.

Priority needs to be a #10… if only Almiron, if only.
