Last season was a tough one for Newcastle United strikers. The club finished 10th in the Premier League but only managed to score 38 goals last season, with Joselu bagging just four times. However, the Spaniard will be hoping for a more productive season this time around as he’ll be aiming to kick on from his debut season.

Joselu signed for the Magpies from Stoke last summer. Looking back, that was a very smart move as the Potters are now in the Championship whilst Newcastle will be hoping to chase another top-ten finish. Ultimately, the competition in the Premier League gets harder every year and that will be a hard feat to achieve but if their Spanish frontman can kick into gear then it should come easier.
Rafa Benitez has been looking to sign a striker for a while now this summer. The club has been linked with Salomon Rondon heavily over the last few weeks but if they don’t sign a striker they may have to just get by with Joseluand Dwight Gayle. At the moment that sounds like a very bad option for the fans. Between them, Joselu and Gayle scored ten goals last season and there will be little optimism going into the new campaign if it’s just the current pair leading the line, however, they’ll be keen to show the fans what they can do.

As you can see, there’s plenty of optimism around Joselu at the moment, it will be telling whether that optimism is still there if the club don’t sign a striker this window though.
