There are a lot of Newcastle fans out there who would sell some of their key players to bring in some better replacements, although there aren’t any who would sanction the sale of Jamaal Lascelles. The 24-year-old centre-back has proven to be one of the best in the Premier League and it would be a crime against football if Mike Ashley let him go on the cheap.
Unsettling stuff for Jamaal Lascelles coming from people close to his agent. Same stuff that came when he was linked with Everton and Chelsea earlier. Newcastle yet to confirm if this is a serious bid. #nufc #whufc

It’s been reported by Sky Sports that the Magpies have rejected a £20 million bid rising to £25 million for the defender that was put in by the West Ham, who would have been hoping to make the classy defender their 5th signing of the summer. It’s a well-known fact that Mike Ashley likes to cash in on his star players when the money is right and every fan who’s ever packed into St James Park will be praying this time Ashley holds onto his star.
The Geordies will likely be selling another central defender this summer in the form of Chancel Mbemba, meaning they would have to recruit at least one more defender if Lascelles was allowed to leave. this doesn’t look like the case though as the club are yet to be linked to a centre-back. If the club did agree to sell Lascelles, the bid would have to be spectacular. They’ve already rejected £25 million and given the fans valuation of the 24-year-old, it would probably take £50 million to prise Lascelles from the Northeast.
Here’s what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have to say on the Lascelles situation:

Can't see as unsettling. Would be unsettling if it was a top 6 team bidding £40 /£50M. He has it on a plate for him at NUFC Why would he ruin that to join a team that's in a worse position.. not just on the football field.

Not worried at all until a top 6 club comes in with a 50m + bid. Which is pretty much what Rafa’s ‘not for sale at any price’ quote translates as.

Amazing we turned that down.that £25m would cover the next 4 transfer windows for incoming players

Southampton, Everton, West Ham – all teams we need to be competing with next season for a top half finish spending £15-£20mil on players yet Newcastle still think they can get away with loan deals and £5 mill players another relegation is looming. #Ashleyout

As you can see, the mood among the Magpies is that Lascelles should be kept at all costs, which is a smart move considering the impact he has on the squad.
