Whilst fans of most Premier League teams would be fuming at their manager for a poor team selection before a game that they got thrashed 4-0, Rafa Benitez just cannot be blamed for his picks yesterday. It comes down to a huge lack of quality in the Magpies’ squad, and the fans know that the Spaniard isn’t to blame.

The fans probably would have been quietly pleased with losing just 4-0 when you considering the match-ups between the Liverpool side and their own. It’s quite likely that the Newcastle starting eleven would struggle to make the bench at Anfield, barring one or two performers, yet the fans still found a way to be disappointed when they saw their starting eleven at Anfield.
Whenever the Geordies rock up for a game and see that their £5 million signing from Stoke City, Joselu, is starting, they already know that it’s going to be a field day for the opposition’s defence, and yesterday was no different. The only positive for the fans was the inclusion of Yoshinori Muto, but even the small positive wasn’t enough to outweigh the negative of Joselu and Isaac Hayden.
You can see what the Magpies had to say about their team lineup at Anfield here:
I'll just be happy with the kind of performance that puts us last on Match of the Day.

Let’s just write this game off. No1 can expect anything other than a loss today. It’s a tactical selection from Rafa

The Geordies were fuming at their lineup, and who can blame them when they have so few players capable of turning a game.
