Just like clockwork, Mike Ashley has come out a few weeks before the start of a transfer window and claimed that he will be making funds available. According to The Chronicle Ashley is prepared to shell out over the January window as Rafa Benitez looks to improve his squad, however, it’s hard to see this actually happening given the way this story has gone before.

It happens before every window. Ashley promises that Rafa will be given ‘Every penny generated by the club’ before pocketing millions, giving back nothing and then buying House of Fraser for £90 million. It really is tough being a Newcastle fan at the moment because of this and the supporters will be praying that just once they can all be proved wrong and have their tyrant owner splash out in the market to help the struggling Benitez.
It was obvious over the summer that Rafa didn’t get the players he wanted. He was restricted to signing 4th and 5th choice options and now it looks like The Magpies are paying for that. The club went ten games at the start of the season without winning a game and whilst they’ve picked up maximum points from their last two, there is still a huge task ahead for the club, and getting some mid-season reinforcements would help out significantly.
