Rafa Benitez has been a class act at St James Park. The Spaniard has seen them win the Championship and secure a 10t placed finish in the Premier League in his first two full years in the Northeast. However, with the club currently on an eight-game winless run, The Mirror is reporting that Mike Ashley could be close to sacking Benitez.

Newcastle have had a torrid start to the season. That, though, is understandable when you factor in the circumstances. The fans are in a stand-off with Mike Ashley and have been piling pressure on the Sports Direct owner to sell up as soon as possible and the club have faced five of last season’s top six in their opening eight fixtures. With that being said, the next three games they face against Brighton, Watford and Southampton will be very telling.
Being a Magpie has never been harder than it is at the moment but the supporters won’t give up easily, they’re determined to see Rafa Benitez keep his job and will be fuming if Ashley decides to cut him. A spirited performance against Manchester United saw them lose 3-2, despite being 2-0 up inside ten minutes, and if Benitez can get his team playing the way they did in the first half at Old Trafford on their weekly then not even Mike Ashley will be able to find a reason to sack him.

I read the article as more likely a stupid attempt at pushing rafa to sign. If rafa goes no self respecting manager will take the role. If ashley thinks that Is a good idea He really has under estimated the situation. Implosion would be nice outcome in comparison.

Would they honestly pay him off though? Doubt it. They also know Rafa is their best best to stay in the league and thirdly will almost certainly have little or no intention of a financial outlay for a new manager anyway. Total speculation without any serious credibility really

As you can see, sacking Rafa is not what the fans want and they’ll be keen to see the Spaniard stick around long after Ashley’s been cut from the club.
