Newcastle fans have had to bide their time, but they’ve finally got a new signing to celebrate. On Thursday, the Magpies confirmed the arrival of Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron.
It comes after a quiet few weeks for the club, with fans desperate for Rafael Benitez to be given the upgrades to his squad that he so desperately needs.
What is perhaps most shocking about the deal is that it’s apparently – according to the BBC – been completed for a club-record fee of around £20 million. Mike Ashley has been increasingly unwilling to spend big sums of money over the years, but you’ve got to give him credit for this one.
It won’t come as a shock, then, to hear that Newcastle fans are very surprised that the deal has come to fruition. What is perhaps most surprising is the fee involved, with lots of fans taking to Twitter to reveal their views. See below:
I wonder who stole mike Ashley’s check-book.. Very emotional day, only Newcastle fans will understand how I’m feeling right now #DeadlineDay #NUFC #SSN

Don’t get me wrong, Almiron looks like a sick player, and it’s nice to see us actually pay 2019 prices for transfers, but this should be the norm for a club as well off as we are. Ashley is still pretty far away from redeeming himself…#NUFC
