Newcastle United fans would have been confident of grabbing a win yesterday. The Magpies went into the match having lost just once in their last seven games, and with the knowledge that Fulham were yet to keep a clean sheet this season, they had high hopes. Ninety minutes later, 0-0 was the score, and the Geordies were fuming.

Despite having more of the ball and letting fly more often than Fulham, Newcastle never looked like scoring. It’s true that they should have had a penalty, but when you can dominate a game like they did and fail to register a single shot on target in nine attempts then something is very wrong, and if the game was still going on now the chances are Rafa Benitez’s side would still be drawing blanks.
It just looked like one of those days for the Geordies, and whilst they couldn’t win the game, they’ll be delighted that they managed to hold on and didn’t lose it. Had they lost out to Fulham, amd had Aleksandar Mitrovic been on the scoresheet, then the Magpies would be having a meltdown right about now. Even with a point though, the fans are fuming at the game and will hope that their Boxing Day trip to Anfield can see them look even just a little bit more dangerous going forward.

Fulham’s first clean sheet against us tells you all you need to know about Mike Ashley’s Newcastle. Toothless and uninspiring.

That was utterly terrible.

Whilst the Magpies were far from happy with the result and pulled no punches in their assessments of the game, at least they took one point away from the clash as opposed to zero.
