Newcastle in concrete approach for summer freebie, already likened to PL ace

Newcastle’s firm hold on top spot in the Championship may have been lessened on the weekend after defeat at the hands of Fulham, but there has at least been positive news on the transfer front for the Toon Army since.

Nice’s Wylan Cyprien has been aligned with the North East club over the course of the past couple of days, and now France Football are reporting that the Tynesiders are chasing another Ligue 1 talent in the shape of Saint-Etienne’s Mickael Nade.

The 18-year-old centre-back – who has been likened to Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma – who also started his career with Les Verts – is set to be a free agent in a few months’ time and it’s understood that Newcastle have made a concrete approach to lure him across the Channel when his current contract expires.

As well as the Championship leaders, Red Bull Leipzig are thought to be keen, which could be an issue given the club’s record with young players and financial backing.

Nade has yet to represent St Etienne’s first-team, but has performed well for their reserve and youth sides.

Do Newcastle need to target proven PL stars this summer?
