Our Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern were certainly relieved to see their side finally get off the mark in the Premier League over the weekend against West Ham.
The men from St. James’ Park certainly didn’t have the start they would have liked in the league after losing their first two games and you could sense the tension and anxiety was already rising.
The win over West Ham, then, was much needed and now fans want to see their club build on that and bring in some extra players before the deadline in the market later this week.
How they do, then, remains to be seen but according to The Daily Star at least, they have a striker in their sights.
Indeed, with the likes of Dwight Gayle starting slowly this season another new forward could just be what the club needs right now and according to this report it’s Vidar Orn Kjartansson who is being targeted.
The Icelandic forward plays for Maccabi Tel Aviv currently and was the top scorer in Israel last season so there is plenty to suggest he knows where the goal is.
Landlord’s Verdict
Rafa Benitez is a man who knows the market very well and this move would represent the kind of knowledge the Spaniard has of players.
For sure, it’s pretty left field but it could prove to be a master-stroke from the former Liverpool manager and so it remains to be seen if he can pull it off.
