Luke Edwards has given a Newcastle United takeover update on his official Twitter page involving Henry Mauriss.
According to a tweet from the Daily Telegraph journalist, Mauriss is not entirely out of the picture in terms of taking over the Tyneside club, with Edwards claiming that “the lawyers are talking” while also adding that “he’s not disappeared.”

However, this comes after Mike Ashley reportedly ended all talks with Mauriss as well as the Bellagraph Nova (BN) Group, as the chief executive of Sports Direct looks destined to stay on as the owner at St James’ Park for the 2020/21 season.
This also comes after the Premier League and its CEO Richard Masters officially rejected the £300m takeover bid made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) Group, as per a statement released by the club on their official website.

Indeed, the statement that was released by NUFC was rather brutal, as it claimed that the conclusion reached to reject the takeover bid based on the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT) set out by England’s highest division had been reached despite Newcastle providing the top flight with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the Saudi Arabian government.
The statement went on to claim that the club and its owners do not accept that the EPL and its CEO have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them.

The whole KSA takeover saga may well go to court in this sense, and if the Saudi-led consortium were to lose their battle against the Premier League and Masters, then Mauriss may be able to step in if the American businessman is serious about wanting to take over in the northeast.
