Miles Starforth has revealed in his latest transfer piece for Shields Gazette that Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune is set to leave the Tyneside club on loan for the 2020/21 season.
According to the journalist, Lejeune is set to move to La Liga club Alaves, with Steve Bruce sanctioning the loan for the man signed by his predecessor Rafael Benitez.

The centre-back is under contract at St James’ Park until 2022, and if he does not sign a new deal in the northeast within the next year, he will then have just one year left and therefore will be susceptible to being sold at a cheaper price at the risk of losing him for free.
On the other hand, the Magpies may want to think about letting Lejeune go on a permanent basis after his loan spell expires in Spain. The Frenchman was limited to just 11 games in all competitions in 2019/20 as he missed a lot of matches due to injury woes and and also being generally out of favour, as per Transfermarkt.
In fact, Lejeune has never really been a regular at the Toon over the last three years, as he has only managed to make 46 appearances in total across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

Therefore, it might be an idea to let the 29-year old depart on loan at least, with the prospect of selling him on a permanent transfer if a good offer comes in for him after the 2020/21 season.
