Newcastle United are monitoring Amiens defender Emil Krafth, according to The Chronicle.
The club reportedly had talent spotters at the KCOM Stadium on Wednesday for Hull City’s 2-0 loss against Amiens, a game in which Krafth played 66 minutes.
Newcastle were there to look at Jarrod Bowen, but will have also taken the opportunity to monitor the Sweden international, who could be bought in to give DeAndre Yedlin competition at right-back.
Steve Bruce has confirmed that having secured the signature of Joelinton, he is now hoping for defensive cover, a winger and another striker to be added to his squad.
Krafth started 33 Ligue 1 games for Amiens last season, coming on as a substitute twice, scoring once and assisting once.
He did his fair share of defensive work, making 1.6 tackles (per WhoScored), 0.6 interceptions, 2.3 clearances and 0.3 blocks, while he also used his 184cm frame to win 1.3 aerial duels per game.
He didn’t offer much going forward though, as he made 0.5 key passes, 0.2 dribbles and 0.4 crosses on average.
This offers a slightly more reserved option to Yedlin, who made 1 key pass, 0.3 dribbles and 0.6 crosses per game last season.
It is unlikely Krafth would be able to take over Yedlin’s position in an attacking sense, but he would offer a slightly different option – which seems to be what Bruce is looking for.
This may not be the most exciting player Newcastle have been linked with this summer, but Krafth seems like a player who could do a job for the club defensively, as well as provide cover in the right full-back berth.
Newcastle are working on plenty of moves to try and get everything sorted before the deadline, so will be hoping this is one which can be completed with relative ease.
