Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the club to make some movements in the transfer window this summer and could be offered the chance to bring a big name to St. James’ Park.
Rafa Benitez is desperate to bring a number of players to the north-east in order to help improve his team and build on their impressive performance in last season’s Premier League.
The Spaniard is thought to be keen on signing a striker to help add some firepower to the team and, according to reports, he has been offered the chance to bring a man that knows how to find the back of the net.
The Toon Army had the chance to bring the England international to St. James’ Park in January on a temporary deal, however, the 28-year-old decided to snub them at the last moment for a move to the Baggies.
Landlord’s Verdict
Our landlord believes that Sturridge’s questionable record with injuries in recent years should force the club to consider alternative options this summer, as £15 million represents quite a bump for a player who could easily spend the entirety of the season on the injury table.
It is understood that the club will explore other options aside from Sturridge and many of the punters in the bar will feel they can sign a better value for money striker this summer.
