Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has been lauding Andy Carroll as he is expected to sign a new deal at St. James’ Park.
As per ChronicleLive, the striker is set to sign an extension on his current contract for an extra year, as his boss has reportedly been impressed with the former England international since the global coronavirus crisis put players into lockdown.

Carroll had already signed a short-term contract extension to stay at the Tyneside club at least until the end of the 2019/20 season but he is looking to stay on in the northeast for the 2020/21 campaign as well.
Bruce has been the first person to sing the praises of the 31-year old as he told the outlet:
“The break has got Andy right again.
“I shouldn’t say that but it’s the best I’ve seen him look.
“I hope that hasn’t put a jinx on him.
“What have we always said?
“A fully fit Andy Carroll would be a bonus for any team.
“To have him in and around the squad is great.
“Touch wood he stays fit for the next eight or nine games and hopefully we see him again (after that).”
Indeed, if the Englishman is able to impress in the remaining fixtures this term, then he could earn another pay-as-you-play deal for next season.
Carroll has made 15 appearances in all competitions in 2019/20, providing four assists, but he is yet to register a goal so far this season, according to Transfermarkt.
However, the centre-forward has been a cult hero in the past for the Magpies, scoring a total of 33 goals whilst also managing 21 assists in 91 previous matches in all competitions (via Transfermarkt).
Bruce seems to want to keep him for the next campaign but that decision may ultimately lie with the would-be owners as they look to shape up the squad in their own image following a successful takeover – assuming it is completed.

Nevertheless, it seems as if Carroll will stay with the Toon for just a little bit longer.
