Sources close to the proposed takeover of Newcastle United have revealed that the prospective £300m deal with Amanda Staveley’s Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group is the only option to Mike Ashley if he is to sell the Tyneside club, according to the Daily Mirror.
As per the outlet, there has been doubt expressed as to whether Henry Mauriss, another potential buyer, has the ability to raise funds of up to £300m.

This comes after a report that stated that the American was in talks with Ashley to try and push through a takeover in the North East, but this has not materialised as of yet. However, as per the Daily Mirror, Ashley has told him that he now has an open run if he is serious about buying the Magpies, but he will have to at least match the £300m price set by the KSA group.
The ball is now firmly in the court of the Clear TV chief executive as to whether he is to beat the Saudi-led consortium to the purchase after conversations between lawyers from the two parties. However, Ashley is reportedly losing patience with Mauriss, so the businessman will have to likely act fast if he is to have any chance of taking over at St. James’ Park.

Sources close to the Staveley deal have effectively ruled him out of the running anyway as they doubt that he would be able to raise the necessary funds, but only time will tell as to who will be the owner of Newcastle United in the near future.
