According to a report from the Chronicle, Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong is attracting the attention of Premier League clubs due to his prolific form this campaign – but these Magpies supporters would seemingly ‘rather keep Dwight Gayle‘.
Armstrong, who has scored 10 goals and added seven assists in all competitions for Blackburn this season, has already doubled his entire total from his debut season at Ewood Park – with the report suggesting that is the main reason why his former club are now signalling their interest.
Newcastle – who sold the player under Rafa Benitez – have struggled for goals this campaign, averaging a ‘very poor‘ 0.92 per game (Footy Stats), with record signing Joelinton scoring just once in the Premier League all season. However, given the fact that Gayle is also a proven goalscorer in the Championship, netting 23 in 26 starts during the Magpies’ 2016/2017 promotion campaign (WhoScored), many Newcastle fans have doubted Armstrong’s pedigree in being the answer to their goalscoring conundrum.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
14 goals in 77 championships in the past two years, would rather keep @dwightgayle
