Newcastle United: Club join Everton and Tottenham Hotspur in race to sign Emerson

Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race to sign Emerson from FC Barcelona as Mundo Deportivo have claimed that both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also in the hunt for his signature once his loan expires from Real Betis.

However, as per the outlet, none of the Premier League clubs have submitted a formal offer as of yet, as Borussia Dortmund have also looked into the possibility of signing him as a potential replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who has departed Germany for Inter Milan.

In addition, Barcelona reportedly have a buy-back option of just nine million euros should Emerson leave them on a permanent deal, which equates to around £8.1 million.

The Brazilian international is currently valued at £16.2 million by Transfermarkt and has been enjoying a relatively impressive 2019/20 season so far in Spain, scoring three goals and making five assists in 30 games in all competitions, according to the website.

Comparing his stats to the likes of DeAndre Yedlin, Emil Krafth and Javier Manquillo in their respective domestic leagues so far in this campaign, the 21-year old has averaged more tackles, interceptions, shots, key passes, crosses, long balls and through balls per game (via Whoscored).

Based off of these stats, Emerson may be a better option at right-back for the St. James’ Park faithful from the next term, as he has demonstrated his superior ability both defensively and going forward.

If the proposed takeover in the North East does eventually get approved by the top flight, then Amanda Staveley’s Saudi Arabian-led group will likely have the money available too to possibly fund a deal.
