According to a report from the Evening Standard, Newcastle United are set to offer Spurs left-back Danny Rose a ‘route out’ of Tottenham by the end of the January transfer window – prompting many Magpies supporters to dream over signing the England international.
Rose, 29, who has played just 12 league games for the North London club this season, is seemingly out of favour under new boss Jose Mourinho despite his resurgence to form under Mauricio Pochettino last campaign. The defender, who has 29 caps at international level for England (Transfermarkt), could be seen as a capable replacement at left-back for the injured Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett. Looking at their statistics, mainly compared to favoured full-back Willems, Rose hasn’t managed to amass as many tackles per game (1.5) or interceptions as the Dutchman (0.7) but does eclipse the left-back in terms of average offsides won (o.3) and clearances made in the league (2.5), as per WhoScored.com.
It’s clear, at least by the numbers, that Rose could be a capable stand-in for Willems at left-back – with legendary Premier League figure Stuart Pearce singing his praises to HITC Sport back in 2016, claiming he has ‘all the attributes of a modern day left-back’ and has ‘cracked’ his position.
