Deportivo Municipal have confirmed that Newcastle United hold an interest in signing Rodrigo Vilca, according to Diego Montalvan.
As per a tweet from the football journalist, the Peruvian club are waiting for a formal offer from the Magpies, with the reported transfer fee thought to be low.

Montalvan added that he thinks that Vilca could go to the Tyneside club for less than £400,000, which he claims is ‘a steal.’
The Peruvian is regarded as a promising talent and has recently been called up to the international squad by Ricardo Gareca.
However, the Toon apparently fear that he may lack the physical capabilities to make an impact in the Premier League just yet, and so he may be moved out on loan from the Magpies in order to continue his development.
Indeed, it is not hard to see why Vilca can be seen as such a prospect. The highly-rated playmaker has scored four goals and made a further three assists in 26 matches over all competitions while playing in Peru (per Transfermarkt).
In 10 games in Peru’s Liga 1 this year, Vilca has won a rather impressive 7.1 of his duels per match and has also averaged 1.7 key passes and 1.7 successful dribbles in addition to 1.4 shots a game (via Sofascore).

At just 21 years of age as well, Vilca still has time to grow and develop in the attacking midfield role; and if he can improve his physicality, perhaps he would be able to break into the Toon’s first team under Steve Bruce, so long as NUFC can get his signature over the line before the transfer window closes.
