Responding to a piece from the Chronicle enquiring over whether fringe striker Dwight Gayle should start against Burnley on Saturday, many Magpies supporters have pleaded with manager Steve Bruce to play the ‘adventurous’ Englishman as an alternative to Joelinton.
Gayle, who scored 24 Championship goals in 34 starts (WhoScored) for West Bromwich Albion on loan last campaign, has been on the fringes of this Newcastle side despite a severe lack of potency going forward, with Joelinton and Andy Carroll scoring just one Premier League goal all season combined. In just two starts and a flurry of substitute appearances, Gayle has at least managed to register an assist over his limited minutes – perhaps hinting that he could be an option in place of the record £40m signing.
Compared to Joelinton, while Gayle hasn’t managed to equal his shots per game tally (1.5) or amount of completed dribbles (1.2), this could be Bruce’s opportunity to see if the Englishman poses as a better option going forward. Some supporters certainly think he could be a potential answer to their goalscoring conundrum, taking to Twitter and offering their reasons why. Find all of their best comments down below.
Yes, its utterley pointless persisting with Joelinton. Play Gayle in every game, he may just nick us enough goals to save our skins

Yes. 3-5-2 – time to go for it, but we need to get control of midfield. Lascelles, LeJ, Fernand at the back, Hayden, Longstaff x2 in the middle with Ritchie and Almiron on the flanks, Gayle and StM up front. Would like to see him give it a go and be adventurous for once
