Speaking in his press conference ahead of Newcastle United’s clash with Crystal Palace, manager Steve Bruce has revealed that Joelinton is a ‘doubt‘ for the trip – with striker Dwight Gayle on ‘standby‘ for a league start against his former club.
According to tweet by Daily Mail correspondent Craig Hope, the Brazilian is unlikely to feature with Gayle set to start against his former club in a bid to get Newcastle back to winning ways.
Joelinton’s injury has presented an opportunity to test Gayle as, presumably, their sole striker up front with Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron on the wings. Judging by the Englishman’s goal return for West Brom in the Championship last season (WhoScored), there are worse players to have on standby, especially given the fact he has managed to register an assist this campaign over his limited outings.
Taking to Twitter, fans are optimistic that Gayle can potentially show what he made of. Find all of their best comments down below.
