According to an exclusive report from the Sun, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Brighton are ‘interested‘ in pursuing ex-Premier League star Emmanuel Adebayor who is keen on a return to England – resulting in these Magpies supporters lambasting the ‘utterly daft‘ rumour.
Adebayor, who scored a noteworthy 97 Premier League goals during his time in the top flight (Transfermarkt), is reportedly intrigued with the possibility of returning to England – with the former Manchester City forward garnering interest from the likes of the Magpies, Villa and Brighton.
The Togo international, infamously known for his infamous knee-slide celebration against former club Arsenal, has spent the last three and a half seasons in Turkey – having spells at both Istanbul Basaksehir and Kayserispor. Now, Adebayor finds himself without a club, and a return to the Premier League could be an enticing prospect.
Compared to current Magpies forward Joelinton, the African striker amassed a superior shots per game ratio (2) in his last regular season back in 2017/2018 whilst completing more key passes (1.2) and scoring 15 goals in 30 league appearances, as per WhoScored.com. Even though Adebayor appears the better man on paper when playing regularly, there are arguments to be made that he accomplished those feats in a less competitive division.
Regardless of his debated numbers, Magpies supporters still think that this transfer link is ‘utterly daft‘, with one fan even stating that he would ‘rather get Papiss back’ – referring to ex-striker Papiss Cisse who had a phenomenal 2011/2012 season but couldn’t seem to replicate that form thereafter.

Emmanuel Adebayor linked to #NUFC. It’s so utterly daft, I won’t even tell you by who, but it’s an easy guess anyway.
