Newcastle United: Fans beg club to sign Jetro Willems on permanent deal

Responding to an exclusive report from the Chronicle, Newcastle United supporters have begged the club to make defender Jetro Willems a permanent signing following his impressive stint on Tyneside thus far – with some on-lookers hailing the ‘bargain’ and ‘top player’ he has been for the club this season.

Willems, who signed on a season-long loan deal at the beginning of the campaign from Eintracht Frankfurt, has gone on to amass 17 starts for the club – becoming one of their key players. The Dutchman, in that time, has averaged a steady 2 tackles and 2.1 clearances per game whilst also showcasing an attacking threat down the left-hand side – scoring two goals and assisting two others, as per WhoScored.com.

Compared to fellow left-back Paul Dummett, Willems has had much more of an influence in an attacking sense compared to the Welshman, securing a higher pass accuracy (77.2%) whilst completing more dribbles (1.2) – potentially persuading manager Steve Bruce to play the ex-Bundesliga man in a more advanced role.

As a result, plenty of Magpies supporters have pleaded with the club to make his signing permanent – here’s what they had to say on social media.
